The Life of a Showgirl: top e flop del nuovo album di Taylor Swift

Mentre molti suoi colleghi da anni concentrano sforzi e attenzioni sui singoli, Taylor Swift continua a dare molta più importanza ai suoi album. A metà agosto la popstar americana ospite di New Heights, il podcast del suo futuro marito, ha annunciato a sorpresa l’uscita del suo nuovo disco, The Life of a Showgirl. Nessun singolo di lancio, la Swift ci ha fatto entrare in questa nuova era direttamente dalla porta principale.

Rispetto a The Tortured Poets Department, con questo nuovo progetto la Swift torna al pop orecchiabile e ai pezzi più immediati, si sente anche il comeback di Max Martin, che con Taylor aveva lavorato anche a Red, 1989 e Reputation. Al primo ascolto però sono rimasto spiazzato, forse l’estetica di questa nuova era e il titolo, mi avevano portato a pensare che mi sarei imbattuto in sonorità più retro, magari simili a quelle usate da Christina Aguilera per quel gioiello di Back To Basics. Seppur con qualche piccola sorpresa, The Life of a Showgirl non è affatto un territorio inesplorato per Taylor, che però ci aveva promesso “melodie orecchiabili” e ha mantenuto la parola.

Il nuovo album della Swift si apre con quello che forse è il pezzo più commerciale e forte, The Fate of Ophelia, canzone d’amore su Travis Kelce che la salva dal destino di Ophelia (l’Ofelia di Amleto che impazzisce e muore annegata dopo la morte del padre e il rifiuto di Amleto). Deliziose Elizabeth Taylor e Opalite, ma anche Wishlist, che ricorda le atmosfere sognanti di Wildest Dreams. Il disco si chiude con la title track, che è tra i pezzi migliori dell’album, che ha un inizio e una fine semplicemente perfetti. Già asciutto rispetto  ai precedenti lavori della Swift, The Life Of A Showgirl con uno o due pezzi in meno (magari Honey) sarebbe stato perfetto.
